DEMOLITION AND WASTE MANAGEMENT SPECIALISTS NAMED A LEADING UK BUSINESS
10 April 2007, Newport: A leading waste disposal company has today been named one of the top 20 SMEs in the UK.
GD Environmental, from Newport, Wales, is one of 20 SMEs (small to medium sized enterprises), shortlisted for the prestigious National Business Awards.
The National Business Awards, sponsored by Orange, recognises and rewards businesses and individuals for excellence, innovation and success.
Formed in March 2003, GD Environmental has developed from a small drainage company into a complete provider of waste disposal services for businesses and councils across the UK.
GD Environment bulldozed its way to the regional finals of the AXA Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year category by demonstrating significant growth and innovation in its market sector, under-pinned by strong financial performance.
Now an established market leader in the environmental services industry, GD Environmental continues to grown year on year at an average rate of 407% and has trebled its turnover to 50 employees since February 2006, making it one of the fastest growing waste disposal companies in Europe.
In the last 18 months, the company has diversified into the highly competitive skip market fending off competition from established national franchises, including Biffa and Veolia.
To stay ahead of the competition GD Environmental aims to become the greenest skip company in the UK and recycle over 85% of all transferred waste. To aid these efforts, this Summer will see the completion of a state-of-the-art waste transfer and recycling station, which will cost in excess of £1 million.
James Norvill, managing director for GD Environmental, and current British Chamber of Commerce Welsh Entrepreneur of the Year, says that the place in the final is testament to three major factors.
“I believe that the judging panel has been most impressed by our business growth, dedication to improve the environment and customer-focused service,” he says.
“This is a great honour for our team, who have worked tirelessly over the last 18 months to win over 400 regular account customers. We hope our efforts to remain Green will bring further success in the future. ”
GD Environmental will make a final presentation to the National Business Awards panel in May, with the winner announced at an Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on 12 July.
