THREE OF THE BEST FOR LEADING
WELSH WASTE MANAGEMENT FIRM
GDE scoops three titles at the regional British Chamber Awards
- Welsh Business of the Year 2007
- Welsh Green Company of the Year 2007
- Welsh Entrepreneur of the Year 2007
(date): A leading Welsh waste management company has won three major titles in a competition run by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
Newport’s GD Environmental has been named the regional Winner for Wales in both the Business of the Year and Green Award categories.
Managing director, James Norvill, has also been named Welsh Entrepreneur of the Year for the second year running.
The national business awards scheme is coordinated in Wales by ngb2b. Chief executive and member of the judgin panel, David Russ, says:
“We were impressed with the overall performance of the GD Environmental. Clearly they are led by visionary and enthusiastic champions of change who have unlocked their potential through their people.
“Their culture is one that genuinely empowers people to make decisions and, as entrepreneurs, they saw an opportunity and went for it.”
In the last 18 months, GD Environmental has grown significantly in the highly competitive skip market fending off national competition to secure waste management contracts for Usk Mouth Power Station and The Celtic Manor Resort
The Newport company aims to operate the greenest skip service in the UK and continue to reach its impressive 90% recycling target. This will be further aided from the recent £1m development of a state of the art waste transfer and recycling station.
James Norvill, managing director for GD Environmental, is thrilled to win these latest awards.
“This is a great honour for our team, who have worked tirelessly over the last 18 months to win over 400 regular account customers, double the companies turnover and start several recycling projects within local communities across Wales” he says.
“We have exceeded all expectations to win the regional titles and I am especially looking forward to going head to head with the best companies in the UK for the overall prize.”
GD Environmental has grown year on year an average of 130 per cent, with a core team of 55 people growing at the rate of one a fortnight, making them one of the fastest growing waste management companies in Europe.
They will pick up their three awards at the Five Counties Gala Awards Ceremony & Dinner to be held at the Celtic Manor Resort on Friday 18th October.
The Chamber Awards were launched by the BCC in 2004 to recognise and celebrate business excellence through the successes and achievements of its Accredited Chambers of Commerce and their members.
As the only Award scheme open exclusively to members of Accredited Chambers of Commerce. The Chamber Awards offer the chance for businesses across the UK to be recognised on a regional and national level.
GD Environmental will now represent Wales in the three categories at the overall British Chamber Awards 2007 finals at the V&A Museum, London on 29 November.
