XX June, 2007: Newport success story, GD Environmental, has recruited its 50th employee and celebrated with a cake baked by the boss.
Geraint Holmes, a 20-year old business marketing specialist from Cardiff, has been recruited to lead new business development for the waste management specialists, with specific responsibility for the company’s expanding skip hire Service.
New recruit Geraint says that skip hire may not seem sexy, but having researched the potential for market growth over the next five years, it is a challenge he looks forward to.
“Having looked at the potential, I can see that our skip hire service is the one with the most potential for regional development.
“We have a goal to become the greenest skip company in the UK, and are backing this up through the development of a £1m a state-of-the-art waste transfer and recycling station that can recycle over 90% of all skip waste.
“Together with our environmental credentials, all of our client feedback also points to a superior service - in terms of speed, quality and cost-effectiveness – when compared with competitors across south Wales.
“We are about to promote this message in a major new campaign that is glamorous, fun and definitely eye-catching, so watch this space!"
GD Environmental has enjoyed exponential growth since it formed in 2004 and is well on course to reach over 100 employees by summer 2008.
Managing director, and Welsh Young Achiever and Entrepreneur of the Year, James Norvill welcomed Geraint in a style not often seen nowadays.
“We are a family business and our dedicated and experienced team is like an extended family, so what better way to welcome a new member to our midst than with a piece of traditional home baking from my own kitchen!”
“Well, that’s what I’m telling the team.”
GD Environmental is one of Wales’s true success stories. Launched by James Norvill in 2004, the company has trebled its turnover in just two years.
The company will continue its policy of reinvestment, with ambitious plans including the building of waste transfer stations in Cardiff and Monmouthshire, and a £7m turnover by 2009.
It has also recently been named one of 20 best SMEs in the UK by the prestigious National Business Awards.
