- What does the business do?
GD Environmental offer a wide range of services in the domestic, commercial and industrial markets. Our core Drainage and Hazardous Waste Disposal Services have grown significantly over the last 3 years enabling GD to expand into additional markets including Skip hire, Asbestos Disposal, Recycling, HDPE Pipe Welding and Environmental Cleaning. We have ambitious plans to progress into several niche markets later this year which we are all very excited about.
- What made you start GD Environmental?
When the opportunity arose to become Director of the family Business during the merger of Gwent Drain Services Ltd and Marine and Industrial Services Ltd it was a challenge that was difficult to turn down. I have always been passionate about making money and running my own business. When I started working for GD Environmental I had a several ideas of how to take the business forward and things have progressed from there.
- What are the biggest challenges have you had to overcome?
We all enjoy a challenge it keeps us motivated. Our biggest challenge at the moment is managing our continuous growth and assuring we maintain our high quality of service which has benchmarked GD Environmental as one of the best Waste Management and Disposal Businesses in Wales.
- Can you give us three little known facts about your industry?
- The Waste Disposal Industry is one of the most competitive and fastest growing industries in the UK
- When completed GD Environmental’s waste transfer station will be capable of recycling over 90% of transferred waste.
- The amount of household waste recycled or composted in the UK has continually increased from 6 per cent in 1995/96 to 22 per cent in 2004/05. This is set to increase dramatically between 2005-2006.
- What advice would you give to other new businesses?
I would advice you to be organised, realistic and have clear goals to work towards. Starting a new business can be tough particularly in saturated markets you have to be willing to put the time in, but if you want it enough you will achieve your goals.
