PROGRAMME TO CLEAN-UP
2,000 STUDENT HOUSES LAUNCHED
One of Cardiff’s largest letting agents, with 2,000 student houses on its books, has started a clean-up programme inspired by the Echo-backed Keep Cardiff Tidy Campaign.
Ahead of the new academic year, Cathays-based Keylet Property Services has launched its own ‘Lets-Go-Green’ initiative. It has commenced a clear-up of student properties in the areas of Cathays and Roath following the success of KCT’s ‘Get it Out for Cardiff’ initiative which recovered over 350 tonnes of rubbish over two weekends last month.
Peter Vidler, managing director of Keylet Property Services said: “We are really impressed with the positive impact the clean-up operation has had on the local communities in the student areas of Cardiff. We would like to take this one step further and make a concerted effort to clear away any remaining rubbish left in house frontages after the students had vacated.
He added, “We intend to improve the image of student properties under our care. It is important for us to build strong relationships with other residents in these areas, and do all we can to make our houses as clean and presentable as possible. We will ensure that all students who rent properties from us are made aware of their environmental responsibilities from day one.”
The ‘Get it Out for Cardiff’ campaign set a target of recovering 100 tonnes of rubbish and recycling at the end of the university term when student properties were being cleared out. It achieved a record-breaking 350 tonnes through a concerted public awareness campaign mounted with Cardiff Students Union.
As part the scheme, Staff from Keylet’s Cathays branch will be rolling up their sleeves to clear-out the rubbish from the frontages of their student properties in Cathays and Roath starting [date].
To assure Keylet maintains a green operation they have enlisted the help of award winning waste specialists GD Environmental Services to provide builders skips to transport the bagged waste to an appropriate recycling station.
