GD Environmental Top Tips for a Greener Christmas:
If you are looking to go green this Christmas here are a few helpful tips on how to reduce, reuse and recycle your waste to help you on your way:
Reduce
- When shopping use reusable shopping bags or reuse old carrier bags.
- With over one billion cards sent this Christmas, why not send an E-Card to cut back on paper consumption.
- Try not to over wrap presents, perhaps use a Christmas stocking instead of paper for small gifts.
Reuse
- Buy Christmas trees with roots so trees can be planted and reused the following year. Or use an artificial Christmas tree that can be used year on year.
- Unwanted presents can be reused by giving them to a local charity.
- Buy rechargeable instead of disposal batteries for any electrical gifts.
Recycle
- Segregate your waste streams at home into the appropriate council recycling bins.
- For all fruit and vegetable peelings try composting waste to help reduce the 160,000 tonnes of food waste that will end up in landfill this Christmas.
- Take all remaining Christmas cards to one of the Woodland trusts deposit points including Tesco and W.H Smiths so they can be reused and recycled into paper products.
