Recycler Drives Away Waste at Motorshow

RECYCLER DRIVES AWAY WASTE AT WALES MOTOR SHOW

A South Wales environmental specialist is to drive away waste by tackling the ‘carbon footprint’ created by next month’s Wales Motor Show.

Newport-based GD Environmental’s Carbon Neutral project has been appointed to collect and recycle the waste created by more than 10,000 visitors expected at the Chepstow Racecourse event on August 30 and 31.

It follows the success of the Carbon Neutrals initiative at this year’s Six Nations rugby internationals in Cardiff to collect the 90,000 plastic beer glasses left inside and outside the city’s pubs and bars.

The Motor Show extends over 250 acres and includes a live action arena, a supercar lawn, a car club arena, and rally stage.

It is unique as it is one of the few rally shows in the UK that allows the general public to experience a driving event as a passenger in the various vehicles on offer. In the evening the event also has evening entertainment on Saturday night with popular Dirty Sanchez Duo Dayton and Pritchard providing a live show.

Due to the high carbon footprint of the event, the event organiser Peter Hughes has identified the need to become more Carbon Neutral where possible.

Gerwyn Holmes, Project Manager for GD’s Carbon Neutrals team said, “We have been contracted due to the good work we have done with the Six Nations in Cardiff.

“Our Carbon Neutrals young vibrant brand will appeal to the younger adults expected at the event on Saturday while also assuring the event is clean and tidy for families with young children.

“It’s a testament to Peter Hughes and his team to identify and take strides to reduce the carbon footprint of the Motor Show.

“We are excited about working with the Peter to ensure the event is among the cleanest and greenest in Wales this year.”

GD Environmental has ambitions to reach an annual turnover of £7m by 2009, increasing its current workload of processing 23,000 tonnes of dry waste a year, making the firm one of the largest in Wales.

It specialises in all forms of wet and dry waste disposal, as well as offering skip hire, drain services and recycling facilities. It offers the only asbestos transfer station in Gwent, Monmouthshire and surrounding areas.
